Midterm Question # 1

MNC's are complex organizations however, they dominate the worldwide market. Knowing the background and nature of MNC's, answer the following:

1. Identify the benefits and disadvantages of MNC's.
The multinational companies provide employment, infrastructure development and growth economies,Gaining a strong foothold into the international market, Low-cost locations, Cheaper labor costs, Cheaper raw materials and distribution costs, Taking advantage of the many tax breaks offered by foreign countries, Access to new technologies and methods.

There are various disadvantages of multinational companies. Firstly, multinational companies can severely impact the local industries because it increases the competition in the economy. Secondly, multinational companies can negatively impact the culture of the economy. Thirdly, because of the trade restrictions the multinational companies can face various problems. The availability of resources are limited in an economy and when multinational companies are opened then resources can get scarce. Moreover, though a company can grow because of investments brought by multinational companies but still the economies can grow more if the local investors make these investments.Trade restrictions imposed at the government-level
Taxes or tariffs imposed on imports from other countries.Effective management of a globally dispersed organization
2. Identify one MNC company and describe its operation.

HSBC has an enormous operational base in Asia and significant lending, investment, and insurance activities around the world. The company has a global reach and financial fundamentals matched by few other banking or financial multinationals.HSBC is by far the largest bank both in the United Kingdom and in Hong Kong. HSBC has been the largest banking group in the world.The HSBC Group has a significant presence in each of the world's major financial markets, with the Americas, Asia Pacific and Europe each representing around one third of the business. 3. Describe how the parent control/coordinates with its subsidiaries in other countries or region?

The parent coordinate by knowledge flow or transfers in transnational corporations, identifying different form of knowledge to be transferred. As multinationals establish subsidiaries in new locations, they will transfer know-how from the parent to the local operation. In established multinationals with a geocentric orientation, knowledge should be freely flowing from one unit to another as the whole organizationsbenefits from development activity.
4. How is IT maximized or used by this MNC?

To promote pruductivity and enhancement, IT traits as investment, Traditionally Information Technology (IT) has been perceived as being a means to provide more efficient processes that would lead to lower cost products and services.Information technology continues to progressively penetrate into core business technologies. IT provides management with access to information and a means to make routine decisions without managerial intervention. Access to information implies that the various types of innovation described have occurred to some extent, dentifying the target market developing a unique base of information about this target market and establishing specialist processes to produce a cost advantage in servicing this market.
5. What were the weaknesses/problems encountered by this MNC from its environment and global setup?
The common problem encountered by multinational company is the economic crisis,culture of different subsidiaries,the different location,capitalization,expenses,communication,and management.

Prelim Question # 4

Ethics is relevant regardless of the type of organization and style of management. It is by this ethics that legal and moral laws are established. IT is not at all excluded from this.

Answer then the following.

1. List down the ethics for computer usage.

(a) The integrity of the systems must be respected.
(b) Privacy of other users must not be intruded upon at any time.
(c) Users must recognize that certain data are confidential and must limit their access to such data to uses in direct performance of their duties.
(d) The rules and regulations governing the use of facilities and equipment must be respected.
(e) Persons responsible for computing devices connected to the network will ensure that those devices are maintained in a secure state in accord with related policy.
(f) No one shall obtain unauthorized access to other users' accounts and files.
(g) The intended use of all accounts, typically for university research, instruction and administrative purposes, must be respected.
(h) Users shall become familiar with and abide by the guidelines for appropriate usage for the systems and networks that they access.

2. WHat common forms of ethic violations happen in the internet and in the organization?
(a) Intentionally using the computer to annoy, harass, terrify, intimidate, threaten, offend or bother another person by conveying obscene language, pictures, or other materials or threats of bodily harm to the recipient or the recipient's immediate family.
(b) Intentionally using the computer to contact another person repeatedly regarding a matter for which one does not have a legal right to communicate, once the recipient has provided reasonable notice that he or she desires such communication to cease (such as debt collection);
(c Intentionally using the computer to disrupt or damage the academic, research, administrative, or related pursuits of another;
(d) Intentionally using the computer to invade the privacy, academic or otherwise, of another or the threatened invasion of the privacy of another.

3. How does ethics affect the decision making of mangers?
Its help to discipline the employee not to destroy the privacy of other user especially in the organization.Recognize the confidentiality of data and limits their access to the data not related to thier job.The ethics can help the management to control the employee.

4. Cite a company which experienced legal or social conflicts because of its violation of ethics. You may check as example the problem of pre-need insurance companies in the Philippines.

Answer: Legacy Insurance company

a. Describe briefly the nature of the problem.
The present problem of company is bankruptcy,they did not recovery of their some asset that they invested in other business, and its take some year to recover it and the plan holder suffer from it.

b. How was this resolved?
As of now they give some product like soap,vitamins,etc.to plan holder while waiting for their money invested in plan to return.

c. Who were affected?
The plan holder is the most affected worry on how to get their money back.

d. What were the damages?
The plan holder can't get their insurance, the company now can't issue new insurance plan because the government stopped them.its impossible to them to raise money to give in their plan holder.

A company has basically four (4) levels of organizational hierarchy and each level makes use of unique IT technology and software to address and/or support their works.
Answer then the following:
1. Identify and describe information systems (IS) used in each level.
Answer:
Transaction processing system is a set of information which process the data transaction in database system,it is also called knowledge level..Management information system is a subset of the overall internal control of a business covering the application of people, documents, technologies to provide summary report..Decision support system, provide materials for analysis and work for solution structure.Executive support system is for forecasting, profit planning,man power planning.
2. How do these IS help the employees and managers achieve their objectives.
Answer:
It can help to employee to do their job well.Each employee has distinct job and well distributed,and the objective can achieve easily. All employee has separate assignment,each department can fucos on their job to concentrate in achieving their goal.It can help to sum up summary reports of employees and managers in office report and also for the data of their works on transaction.
3. Cite a local or national company that makes use of these IS and identify the benefits and drawbacks/lapses of these IS.

An organization may adopt a closed-system or open-system model.
1. Discuss the pro's and con's of each model.
Answer:
Open systems - A system with characteristics that comply with specified, publicly maintained, readily available standards. A system that allow information to be exchange between a general public without authorization. The Internet is thus an open information system, where exchange of data is available for general public.
pros and cons:hanged or data Increased visibility and higher citation rates
Fast, toll-free access to information. Good find ability via search engines and reference services, Open access to publicly-funded research results, Long-term document availability,
Benefits in networked, IT-supported work environment.
Closed information systems - Whereas for closed information system exchange of data is limited to an authorization. Closed information system usually used within an organization, where data can be excavate can be accessed by users with computers in an organization
pros and cons:only limited or authorized individual can access the information,secured information.in the absence of individual no one can work for it

2. Cite a company that uses any of this model. Describe briefly how this chosen model affect the entire company.
Answer:
Philippine entertainment portal,an company uses web site to let the public know about the latest showbiz news.the public can access information through their site. This information model helps them to reach the information in the public. The information available in the public anytime.

3.Evaluate how an environment affects the organization and its management. Discuss the pro's and con's of not responding to the demands of the environment.
Answer:
Environment affects the organization and its management by influencing it. If all competitor using Internet to market their product and it work, So why staying in the old marketing strategy? The management will work to be in the track to promote the business.
Pros and Cons:
If your business is not responding in the demand of environment, you will behind,other are using Internet and you are not the tendency your sale is lower than other who use it, less expensive in your part to advertise your product for example. The cons you need to hire the expert for applauding data about your business.The organization need to adjust for new invironment and system .

1. How do you perceive information as a resources of a company?
Answer:
Information is very important in every company, its is consider also as resources of because if some information leaks from one company to another or to competitor the business must suffer to it.Information must be kept,especially all details in business operation,marketing plan and tactics,and financial information, in order to prevent some problem in the future.



2. cite an company,its nature, describe how the information from its management as a whole.
Answer:
Jade Life Therapy Corporation, it is the exclusive dealer of Thermal massage machine here in Philippines. All business information is kept by main branch to their satellite offices nationwide. The information about their business operation, marketing strategy, etc.only the person involve will know for their business to survive. The information is intended to the management in order to perform well
